EAT- Seasonal Allergy Prevention

While we are loving the sunny, Spring weather, we can’t help but keep an attentive eye out for anything budding or blooming, which will signify the inevitable beginning of allergy season. Last Spring, victims of seasonal allergies were at an all time high, and we were no exception. This year, determined to be proactive and to prevent our seasonal allergies, without over-the-counter meds, we did a ton of research and made a nutritional plan, complete with foods and supplements to either avoid or stock up on. If the ‘avoid’ list seems daunting, just remember that allergy season is temporary! AVOID:

• all GRAINS, as much as possible

• DAIRY, especially pasteurized

• ALCOHOL, especially WINE

• FERMENTED and AGED foods

DO EAT:

• ANTI-INFLAMMATORY foods, like fish, nuts, and vegetables

• local, organic HONEY, about ¼ teaspoon daily

• HOT PEPPERS

• WHITE AND GREEN TEA

• QUERCETIN, in supplement form at 200-400 mg/day or by consuming black tea,

   red onion, apples, berries, and other quercetin-rich foods

• BUTTERBUR (except if allergic to ragweed, marigold, daisy, or chrysanthemum, or

   if pregnant or nursing)

• VITAMIN C

• OMEGA 3 FATTY ACIDS, via krill oil supplements

• PROBIOTICS

• GOLDENSEAL
